YEREVAN. – The Yerevan State University (YSU) Student Council is seriously concerned about the illegal detention of Student Council president Davit Apoyan and the highlighted repressive manner of his detention. The YSU Student Council has issued such a statement.

The statement says that, in particular, Apoyan was deprived of his liberty in connection with an incident during which he was located elsewhere participating in a public event organized by the Student Council.

As per the statement, the way the Student Council president was detained is particularly puzzling as he was detained in the area of YSU building and in front of many YSU staff and students, and he was transferred in handcuffs to the police station and accompanied by numerous police officers.

According to the statement, he was treated like a dangerous criminal, which damages the good reputation of not only Apoyan, but also of the YSU Student Council as an important student body.

"In connection with all this, we expect detailed and public clarification from relevant bodies," the statement concludes.
