Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan today convened a consultation to consider the draft of the Republic of Armenia National Strategy on Human Rights Protection and the 2019-22 Action Plan arising from the National Strategy.

Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan stated that the development and adoption of the Action Plan arises from the 2019-23 Action Plan of the Government of Armenia and several international commitments assumed by the Republic of Armenia, including the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement. Badasyan stated that the Strategy provides an assessment of the current state of human rights protection and the previous Action Plan and earmarks the main principles and the priorities for the next three years. Based on the Strategy, it is envisaged to establish a monitoring group comprising representatives of state bodies and civil society representatives to oversee proper implementation of the Action Plan and create an electronic platform for the National Strategy.

During the consultation, the participants exchanged ideas, discussed several issues related to the Action Plan and made comments and suggestions. The Prime Minister assigned to revise the draft, sum up the recommendations made during the consultation and submit the draft to the Government for consideration as soon as possible.
