YEREVAN. -Armenia should appeal to courts regarding destroying of Armenian monuments in Azerbaijan, said expert on monuments Samvel Karapetyan.

“We should appeal to the European Court of Human Rights and other international structures. It is one of the ways to prevent existing monuments from destruction,” he said.

The expert noted that we should follow the lead of other states, for instance Greece which has filed 1,600 lawsuits against Turkey to protect monuments located in the territory of North Cyprus.

“One of the claims was sustained and Turkey was fined for €1 million. Azerbaijanis should bear responsibility as well,” Karapetyan stressed. The expert said there are 3,000 Armenian monuments in left bank of Kura River, while 6,000 in North Artsakh, no precise information is available.
