Hampig Sassounian has not been released yet, as reported Sassounian’s friend, Shaheh Adjemian, who is in liberty and has been waiting for his friend for 38 years. “After 37 years and 11 months of imprisonment, the court ruled to release him. However, by the legislation of California, the governor shall grant pardon in the course of 90 days. Currently, the Turkish government is in a frenzy to hinder the release of Sassounian, and the Armenian National Committee of America is fighting to make sure the White House doesn’t hinder the release of Sassounian. As for me, I have been waiting for my friend for 38 years,” Adjemian writes.

As reported earlier, the Court of California has granted parole for Hampig Sassounian, who was sentenced for murder of the Consul General of Turkey in Los Angeles in 1982. His attorneys had requested his release several times in the past, yet the court had rejected the requests. According to the indictment of the prosecutors, the motive behind the murder of Turkish Consul Kemal Arikan was the desire to take revenge over the Turkish regime for the Armenian Genocide.
