YEREVAN. - Diesel fuel is mainly used in agriculture, and the demand for it shows a sharp increase during spring sowing. Aware of it, diesel fuel importers sharply raised prices on April 14. The current price is AMD 430 ($1.6) per liter, almost as high as petrol price (AMD 450 per liter).
At some fuel stations the employees claimed the international prices are the only cause of price rise in Armenia. Petrol will soon rise in price as well, they said. However, the recent period has seen a decrease in energy carrier prices worldwide.
Two economic entities – the Flash Company and City Petrol Group – are dominating the diesel fuel market in Armenia, their share being about 88% (source: company register of the Armenian Commission for Protection of Economic Competition).
The rise in diesel fuel price affects not only agriculture, but also the construction sector.
