YEREVAN. - Armenian Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) Karen Andreasyan decided to start “more transparent activities based on the principle of regular public reports,” the Human Rights Defender’s press service reported.

“Taking office March 3, Armenian Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan stated he would be silent for 50 days and asked mass media not to expect any public statements from him.

To contribute to the solution of most urgent human rights problems, Karen Andreasyan intends to present to the public his comments on various issues over next week. In particular, Andreasyan will publish his comments on the social security and property rights, right to assembly, freedom of speech, right to fair trial, violence and torture problems, and consequences of March 2008 events.

“The comments will be available on the Human Right Defender’s official website, www.pashtpan.am. The Human Rights Defender will answer all questions at his April 26 news conference,” the report says.
