YEREVAN. - Interregional ties between Armenia and Russia contribute significantly to traditional friendly and good-neighborly relations between two states, President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev stated in his address to the participants of the first Russian-Armenian inter-regional forum in Yerevan on Tuesday. Head of Russian Presidential Administration Sergei Naryshkin read out the address.

“Industrial cooperation and trade, relations in the field of education, culture, sports and tourism contribute to strengthening of strategic partnership and allied collaboration between the two states,” Medvedev said in his statement.

According to RF President, today Russia and Armenia face common challenges, like modernization and further growth of national economies, improvement of living conditions and a more active integration in the CIS area.

“I am confident that ideas and suggestions at the bilateral forum will help further development of effective interregional cooperation and will contribute to implementation of  business and humanitarian projects,” he noted.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, Head of Presidential Administration of Russia Sergei Naryshkin arrived in Yerevan on Tuesday to attend the first Russian-Armenian interregional forum “Russian-Armenian alliance: toward new achievements of interregional cooperation”.

He laid a wreath at Armenian Genocide Memorial Tsitsernakaberd and paid a tribute to the Armenian Genocide victims, killed under Ottoman Empire in 1915.

Naryshkin will hold meetings with President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, Chief of Armenian Presidential Staff Karen Karapetyan and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.

The handover ceremony of the first Superjet 100 plane to Armavia Airlines, opening ceremonies of the Infrastructure Diagnostics Center of the South Caucasus Railway and of the Memorial to Russian warriors killed in the battle of Oshakan (Aug. 17, 1827) will be held during his visit to Armenia.
