YEREVAN. - An unveiling ceremony of the memorial to the Russian warrior-saviors of Echmiadzin, who were killed in the Oshakan battle in 1827, is to be held on Tuesday.
The ceremony will be held on the margins of the Armenian-Russian interregional forum “Russian-Armenian alliance: toward new achievements of interregional cooperation”. Early this year, on the initiative of Russian Ambassador to Armenia Vyacheslav Kovalenko, renovation work at the memorial got under way. The work was carried out by the Armenian-Russian charity organization Code of Honor.
The battle of Oshakan is one of the heroic chapters of the Russian-Persian war of 1826-1828, when eastern Armenian was liberated from the Persian yoke and annexed by Russia.
