YEREVAN. - Ecologist Karine Danielyan is hopeful that dust cloud penetrating to Armenia from the Middle Eastern deserts will not damage flowering trees.

“If the sand were hot, it would scorch plants, particularly trees. However, I hope it will not happen. Taking into account that sand and dust are not hot, damage will not be considerable,” she said.

Another thing is whether dust cloud contains toxic substances that can cause additional damage to flora and fauna. She stressed research results will be available on Thursday.

Yerevan residents are concerned over dust in the capital since the early morning.

Earlier Gagik Surenyan, Head of the Forecast Department, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the dust in Yerevan is conditioned by intensive flow of tropical hot air currents into Armenia from Middle East deserts.
