The Millennium Challenge program was stopped in Armenia because the country failed to honor its commitments under the program, Vice-Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Razmik Zohrabyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am. "I personally applied to the Millennium Challenge office for explanations," he added.

"Unfortunately, I got the same answer: we failed to implement reforms under the program. The allocation of the next tranche to Armenia depends on reforms as well," Zohrabyan said.

On the other hand, he said, the United States must realize that Armenia is carrying out reforms. "The country cannot do everything in no time, can it? Let Washington recall the 1930s. The U.S. was not a democracy standard then, was it? But you can`t help it, they pay and decide," Zohrabyan said.

Armenia was to get a total of U.S. $180 million under the Millennium Challenge program provided the country implemented democratic reforms, primarily ones related to corruption control. However, the U.S. administration decided to stop the program in Armenia.
