Armenia`s GDP in terms of AMD may reach the pre-crisis level by the end of this year provided all the government-set tasks are accomplished, Ara Nranyan, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF) parliamentary group, told journalists April 21. In USD terms, Armenia`s GDP is expected to be 16 to 20 percent down on the pre-crisis level.

One has only to guess at when Armenia will reach the pre-crisis level. Complete lack of locomotive economic sectors is the cause of the sad situation in the country, he said.

"What has actually happened over recent years? Growth in the construction sector - up to 40% one year - has ensured GDP growth. The crisis caused a decline in the construction sector and fall in international copper prices. Further stabilization caused a rise in copper prices, which somewhat improved economic indicators in Armenia," Nranyan said.
