YEREVAN. – Close relations between Armenia and Georgia are not of declarative nature. The two states are indeed on good terms, the newly appointed Armenian Ambassador to Georgia Hovhannes Manukyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Armenia and Georgia are on friendly terms in almost all spheres of common interest,” he noted.

As for the termination of agreement by the Georgian Parliament on transit of Russian military cargoes and military personnel to Armenia through Georgia, the ambassador said: “I do not think this decision is linked with Armenia-Georgia relations, as it concerns only Georgia’s relations with other states.” According to him, the treaty has nothing to do with Armenia and its presence or absence does not affect the Armenian-Georgian relations.

On Tuesday, Parliament of Georgia unanimously adopted the government’s proposal to terminate a five-year agreement on transit of Russian military personnel and cargo to Armenia through Georgia. The transit agreement was signed in March 2006 and will expire in November 2011.
