The Armenian National Security Council approved the food security concept of Armenia, April 22, Council Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan told a press conference April 23. He stressed the paramount importance of the concept for Armenia’s national security.

At present, Armenia’s food sufficiency is 58%, which is far from being satisfactory, Baghdasaryan said

Armenia’s food sufficient is expected to meet international standards in 2015-2016. “In 2015, we plan to raise its level up to 77% for it to reach 84% by 2020,” he said.

The practical application of the food security concept will promote local production, especially agricultural production. Long-term credit programs will be offered to farmers and enterprises operating in the sector.
