The 96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915 will be celebrated in Cyprus on Monday. Cypriot Armenians will take to the streets to pay tribute to the victims, Cyprus Mail reports.

“We are getting closer to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and Armenians throughout the world are demanding justice to be restored,” Spokesman for the Armenian National Committee Karen Kuyumjyan said.

The demonstrators will march from Armenia street to the Armenian church and lay a wreath at the memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

Archbishop Varuzhan and a member of the House of Representatives of Cyprus Vardges Mahdesyan will deliver speeches.

According to Kuyumjyan, the Armenian community in Cyprus was formed when many fled from the Ottoman Empire, from Cilicia in southern Turkey.
