The 96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was more “calm” as compared to previous years, editor of Turkey-based Agos newspaper Sargis Serobyan told Armenian News - NEWS.am.

Serobyan said there was not much fuss over the anniversary this year as compared to previous ones which, he deems, is conditioned by domestic political developments in Turkey. He stressed that Turkish media did not mention anniversary of the Armenian Genocide this year. “It is very sad,” he noted adding that the Armenian community pins hopes not on the Turkish authorities but Turkish people.  

“The main thing is not what authorities say but what people say. If people are aware of the truth, they will apologize no matter how much the state resists,” he said. Serobyan said that the Agos newspaper is working to inform Turkish people of historical truth.

Events commemorating Armenian Genocide were held on Sunday in four Turkish cities.
