RA Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan believes the concerns over some of the points of the Turkish-Armenian protocols to be unfounded. At his press conference he stated that open boders are a natural thing. Any closed system is incapable of normal development, the USSR being evidence thereof.

As regards the point on recognition of borders, opposed by many who link it with the Kars Treaty, Harutyunyan pointed out that the USSR recognized the treaty several times, and, in joinging the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Armenia recognized all the treatries signed by the USSR.

As regards a decision to form a subcommittee of historians, the RA Ombudsman has no specific opinion. “While talking to some people I believe the Armenian Genocide will be discussed. While talking to others, I think it will not,” Harutyunyan said.
