YEREVAN. - Yazidi community of Armenia calls on the Armenian society not to forget the genocide of Yazidis under Ottoman Empire and commemorate innocent victims on Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day on April 24.

“Over 750,000 Yazidis lived in Turkey at the beginning of the 20th century, of which 500,000 were massacred and only 120,000 were allowed to stay in the country,” head of the Yazidi community in Armenia Aziz Tamoyan told a press conference in Yerevan on Friday. “We need to talk about genocide of Yazidis, as Turks massacred not only Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians.”

April 24 is declared Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day around the world. Many states have recognized the Armenian Genocide. Uruguay was the first to do it in 1965. The Armenian Genocide has since been recognized by Russia, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Canada, Venezuela, Argentina, as well as by 42 of the U.S. states. The Armenian Genocide has also been recognized by Vatican, the European Parliament, and World Church Council.
