In Armenia, oligarchy has coalesced with the criminal world and has caused the greatest damage to Armenia’s sovereignty. This is what leader of the “For Armenia” initiative, MP Arman Babajanyan declared during the hour of announcements in parliament today. According to him, today, there are people who are witnessing the fight for Armenia’s sovereignty.

Babajanyan said what caused the greatest damage to Armenia’s independence and sovereignty was the establishment of anti-state and unlawful institutions that began after Robert Kocharyan seized power, and the actions of those institutions were targeted against sovereignty. “The most dangerous of those institutions and which caused the greatest damage is oligarchy, which coalesced with the criminal world in a short amount of time and turned it into a criminal-oligarchic structure that became the foundation for the authorities of the time,” he said, adding that Armenia’s former authorities declared oligarchs as ‘large proprietors’ and didn’t stop them from having influence on politics, economy, journalism and the judiciary.

“As a result, over the past few months, we have been seeing how the oligarchy is attacking the state and society under the patronage of the former and current pseudo-political forces. We see forces that are ready to take anti-state actions in order to regain the power that they lost,” Babajanyan said, adding that he represents the “For the Republic” movement which is leading a struggle against the aforementioned criminal phenomena.

Today, the National Assembly voted and stripped Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan of parliamentary immunity and ‘approved’ his detention.
