The Hogyats Monastery, which is one of the many Armenian monasteries in Van Province of Turkey, still works miracles for the local Kurds.
In addition to treasure hunters, the residents of the surrounding villages who cannot have children also visit this monastery, according to the Armenian weekly Agos of Istanbul.
Every Sunday, these Kurdish couples who want to have a child go on a pilgrimage to the Hogyats Monastery, sacrifice a rooster, and promise that if they have a boy, they will name him Isa (the Muslim name of Jesus), and if a girl is born, they will name her Meryem (the Muslim name of the Virgin Mary).
And icon with the image of the Mother of God—and engraved by Andrew and John the Apostles—is buried under the main tabernacle of this monastery.
