The rise in the number of civil cases is linked to the increase of confidence of the Armenian public in the judiciary. This is what Head of the Judicial Department of the Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia Karen Poladyan said during today’s discussion on the draft of the 2021 State Budget held as part of the joint session of the Standing Committees on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs and on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly, responding to the question from Chair of the Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs, deputy of the Bright Armenia faction Arkady Khachatryan, who asked how public confidence in the judiciary can be assessed according to the qualitative indicator.

Poladyan stated that this is a delicate issue. “I am inclined to believe that the number of cases of courts, including the rise in the number of complaints received by the Court of Cassation attests to increase of confidence in the judiciary,” Poladyan said and presented figures.

According to him, over the past six years, the Supreme Judicial Council has received 48,540 civil cases, and this year, as of today, nearly 200,000 civil cases have been accepted, meaning the number has risen by almost 4-5 times.
