Proponents of US President Donald Trump believe that in case of a definite defeat, he should step down nicely to maintain his influence in politics, reported VOA.

When leading American TV channels announced that Democrat Joe Biden had won the presidential election, incumbent President Trump and his allies made it clear that the Republican nominee was not going to accept defeat any time soon.

On Saturday, the president announced that his team of lawyers was going to appeal in court the counting the votes in a number of states. Trump hopes that this strategy will enable to invalidate the election results in key states for him.

The supporters of and advisers to the president privately admit that Trump has little chance of annulling the election results.

Sources at Reuters said the Republicans were trying to raise at least $60 million to fund this lawsuit in several states by declaring an unlevel playing field and raising donations from sponsors. More than half of the money raised will be used for paying off election campaign debts.
