President Joe Biden on Wednesday lifted the ban imposed by his predecessor Donald Trump on legal immigration for family members of US citizens and residents, as well as visa applicants of various types, Politico reported.

Biden said in a statement that former President Donald Trump's order to ban green card applicants and temporary foreign workers does not advance US interests.

"To the contrary, it harms the United States, including by preventing certain family members of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents from joining their families here. It also harms industries in the United States that utilize talent from around the world," Biden stated in his proclamation.

The Donald Trump administration has justified the ban as necessary to protect American workers and the American labor market amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Business groups, including the tech industry, and immigrant rights advocates have recently expressed concern that the Biden administration has not talked about any plans to lift the ban, which was introduced in April and then expanded in June.
