YEREVAN. – Armenia is often a state of conservative society with rooted gender stereotypes, hidden discrimination, general tolerance towards various violence in relation to women.
This is stated in the National program against gender violence, presented for the approval of the Armenian Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. The document states that local and international organizations have conducted researches on evaluating family violence in Armenia since 2000. The results show that women in Armenia are exposed to violence.
Official statistics shows that 61 % of women who had one partner at least were exposed to behavior control, 25% to physiological pressure, 8.9% to physical violence, 3.3% to sexual violence, 9.5% to both physical and sexual violence.
