YEREVAN. – The current martial law needs to be lifted in Armenia. Edmon Marukyan—chairman of the opposition Bright Armenia Party and head of its parliamentary faction—who is one of the lawmakers behind of the draft decision on the lifting of the martial law in the country, stated this during the discussion of this initiative at Tuesday’s sitting of the National Assembly.
To note, both the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party and the Bright Armenia Party MPs have signed under this draft decision.
According to Marukyan, the current martial law does not correspond to the situation and is a big obstacle for all political processes in the country. Thus, it is not possible to hold local elections in Armenia for almost a year now.
Marukyan added that snap parliamentary elections are planned in the country, and in order to achieve these goals, it is necessary to lift the current martial law—which was declared in Armenia on September 27, 2020.
