YEREVAN. The South Caucasus Railways CJSC stopped the operation of Gyumri-Artik electric train from June 1. The management of Gyumri station explained it by non-profitability of this route and number of passengers. According to Lernik Danielyan, Acting Director of Gyumri branch of South Caucasus Railways, the train operated for many years hardly covering its expenses.

Communities in Artik, Pemzashen and Meghrashen were offered to allocate a certain amount of money monthly from the village administration for local residents to travel by train, but the heads of village administrations refused, explaining it by lack of funds.
