YEREVAN. - Childhood cancer is going to decline in Armenia. If eight years ago children’s department of National Center of Oncology used to take 100 childhood cancer cases annually, over the past few years this figure fell to 80, the senior doctor of the Chemotherapy children department Haykuhi Ghekchyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent.

According to her, blood cancer- leukemia, brain tumors and lymphomas - neoplasms of the lymphatic system are among the most widespread types of cancer for children aged 5-15.

“It’s noteworthy that inborn forms of tumors of kidney and other internal organs are found with children aged 4-5,” said the doctor.

She found it difficult to point out which sex is especially vulnerable to various forms of cancer, saying instead that 5 years ago the center received rather large number of children coming from Nagornno-Karabakh. This circumstance stemmed from the stress experienced by Karabakh children during the war. Now, fortunately, the number of diseased children from Nagorno-Karabakh decreased as well.
