YEREVAN.- President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has left for Kazan where he will hold a meeting with his Azerbaijani and Russian counterparts to discuss the Karabakh peace process.

The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs are expected to join the meeting.

Presidents will attend the traditional Russian President’s Cup horse race at the invitation of Dmitry Medvedev.

Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Thursday saying “the document, which will be discussed in Kazan, is a result of an important period of joint work of the parties and co-chairs. It is a solid foundation for further advancement and preparation for the comprehensive peace agreement”.

Moscow expects that “Baku and Yerevan will respond constructively to the joint statement issued on May 26 in Deauville by the presidents of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - the Russian Federation, the United States and the French Republic, which calls on Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders to show political will and complete discussion of the draft Basic Principles on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict during the Kazan summit.”

On the eve of the meeting Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents held phone conversations with their French and U.S. counterparts.

President Obama strongly encouraged the two leaders to finalize and endorse the Basic Principles during their meeting with President Medvedev in Kazan. President Sarkozy wished the Armenian leader to achieve success at the meeting.
