US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit the Middle East in the coming days, the State Department said after Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire.

The senior US diplomat will meet with Israeli, Palestinian and regional counterparts in the coming days to discuss reconstruction efforts and work together to build a better future for Israelis and Palestinians.

Blinken spoke with his Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi, who welcomed Secretary of State Blinken's planned trip to the region.

Both diplomats expressed their gratitude to Egypt for its mediation efforts, and the secretary of state noted that he will continue to maintain close contact with his Egyptian counterpart and other stakeholders in the region.

Blinken welcomed the confirmation by the Israeli Foreign Minister that the parties had agreed on a ceasefire.
