YEREVAN.- Although resumption of Karabakh war was not announced officially, given the fact that Azerbaijan is a weak and unpredictable enemy, the likelihood of war is quite strong, said political expert Richard Giragosian.
“Azerbaijan is well aware that it will face defeat no matter how much military budget will be increased. Azerbaijan has been engaged in military buildup for several years but this is not enough to pose a threat to Armenia,” he said.
The threat actually underlies in the probability of accidental war such as broke out in South Ossetia in 2008.
The expert considers that Azerbaijan’s change of diplomacy on Karabakh is dangerous as well. In other words, the diplomatic war is gradually changing into a war of diplomacy.
“Azerbaijan does not understand that it lost the war and lost Karabakh forever. It is a psychological problem, due to which Azerbaijan has driven itself into a corner, demanding all at once,” Giragosian noted adding that it is better to have a strong and predictable enemy, than a weak and unpredictable one.
