YEREVAN. - The talks on Karabakh conflict resolution are of symbolic nature without Stepanakert’s participation, Armenian President’s Permanent Representative in the National Assembly Garnik Isagulyan told a press conference on Thursday. He stressed determination of Karabakh’s status is the most important issue in the peace process.

Asked on Azerbaijan’s possible military aggression and Turkey’s role, the official said that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan received more military equipment than Armenia, Georgia and Nagorno-Karabakh together.

“Azerbaijan had 458 tanks, 1264 armored cars, 395 units of artillery, 63 rockets, 53 military and 52 training planes before 1993 unlike Armenia, but Armenia won the war,” he noted.

Isaguyan draw a parallel between the moral and combat readiness of Azerbaijani armed forces, stressing Armenia is not behind Azerbaijan. Referring to Azerbaijan’s ramping up military spending, Isagulyan stressed it does not mean anything, as weapon is not the most important thing in the war.

“If Azerbaijan resorts to military operations, it will mourn for loss of new territories,” he emphasized. ”
