Rescue operation continues at the site of the collapse of a residential building in Batumi, Georgia, Sputnik Georgia reports.

As of 8am, only two people were rescued from the rubble, whereas five others, including a child, were found dead.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has detained three people—the owner of a first-floor apartment and two workers who were renovating it.

Construction and renovation was carried out in the apartment under the direction of the apartment owner and in gross violation of safety rules, and this most likely led to the collapse of one of the entrances to the residential building, according to a statement from the Georgian Interior Ministry.
