The court of civil cases in Bursa, Turkey, has found a person who made a social media post guilty for calling the country's president a "Jew."

This person had written on social media that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pretends to be a Muslim, but he is actually a Jew, reported Agos Armenian newspaper of Istanbul

Subsequently, Erdogan lawyer had sent a letter to the court, arguing that the word "Jew" is degrading and insulting.

During the trial of this case, the defense lawyer stressed that Jews are dignified citizens of Turkey and calling someone a "Jew" cannot be considered insulting.

The court, however, ruled that the word "Jew" was an insult, and sentenced the defendant to ten months in prison, but then commuted it to a fine of 7,000 liras (approx. US$720).
