The group of 27 participants, composed of future lawyers and solicitors, researchers and legal experts, as well as lecturers of Yerevan "Gladzor" University, Gavar State University, Gyumri "Progress" University , were introduced to the crucial aspects of the international protection of refugees and stateless persons, asylum-seekers and displaced population.

The School’s programme was developed and conducted by UNHCR, its state and NGO partners, and guest lecturers specialised in refugee law. It included sessions about the crucial aspects and principles of refugee protection and asylum issues; legislation and procedure of refugee status determination and grounds for cessation of refugee status; unaccompanied minors and separated children; the economic and social rights of refugees in Armenia, and other relevant topics.

“Refugee Law School allows a best learning environment for future lawyers interested in refugee protection. It creates a platform for acquiring knowledge and information sharing allowing career perspectives and professional networking. The School grants the students the opportunity to learn about and analyse the challenges and successes of asylum system and refugee protection in Armenia and understand the importance of promoting human rights and a dignified life for all”, said Arman Tonikyan - Head of External Relations and Internationalization Department of Yerevan "Gladzor" University.

The three-day event was concluded by a Tedtalk delivered by a refugee living and creating in Armenia, who shared his story of becoming a refugee and his dreams that he thrives to make them come true in his host country, Armenia.

Refugee Law School was organised by UNHCR through its partner "Mission Armenia" NGO.
