ANKARA. – City court of Ankara rejected compensation in the amount of TRY 150,000 ($91,000) against Muzhdat Gezen, who called idiots those voting for the ruling party at a program during elections.
According to Turkish Hurriyet, advocate of Turkey’s PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Gezen hurt voters by using the expression of “according to criteria of Aziz Nesin” instead of saying the word idiot.
However, advocate of Gezen reminded the court that in his time Nesin was acquitted in the court for having used the word. Hence nowadays court cannot consider the expression a crime as it is not democratic. The judge rejected the case after having listened to both sides.
In connection with the rating of the ruling party, Gezen reminded Turkish famous writer Nesin words at a program recently where high ranked officials were participating.
“Rating of the party Justice and Development is said to be 50 percent, however, it should be 60 percent according to Nesin,” Gezen has said.
Nesin has called 60 per cent of Turks idiots.
