YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd newspaper of Armenia writes: The National Assembly [(NA)] will convene a special sitting on February 23. The "Shushi Declaration" ratified by the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Turkey is on the agenda.

The objective of the initiative of the opposition "Armenia" Faction [in the NA] is to oppose a number of anti-Armenian wordings (from the so-called "Zangezur corridor" to the distortion of the Armenian Genocide) in the above-mentioned declaration

According to the Zhoghovurd daily’s information, the initiative of the "Armenia" Faction “has caused a fight at the home” of the ruling "Civil Contract" [(CC)] Faction [in the NA]. The parliamentary majority is faced with an undesirable dilemma: to be for or against the opposition draft? On the one hand, a very important matter is put for the [parliamentary] discussion of the [aforesaid] anti-Armenian document and its condemnation. In the other hand, it is an opposition-brought draft, which the CC has a hang-up to vote for.

Voting in favor will mean agreeing and accepting the agenda put forward by the opposition. But authorities driven by unreasoned ambitions cannot come to terms with this idea. They cannot thwart the [respective NA] sitting and not discuss the [draft] package either, as the society will have another opportunity [to say] that the [Armenian] authorities are against the draft condemning the anti-Armenian policy of Azerbaijan.
