Armenia plans to have a satellite of local manufacture. Now former Minister of High-Tech Industry, President-elect Vahagn Khachaturyan said this during a program on Public Television.

He noted that the use of the space is a great advantage not only for military purposes, but also for civilian purposes—for agricultural and meteorological purposes, as well as within the framework of cadastre functions.

"By the way, one way or another, the [Armenian] cadastre now uses space photography. Now we will have all that being implemented within the framework of the Armenian, the Armenia [space] agency. We should also try to have a satellite; we have set such a task," he said.

Khachaturyan noted that they know people who have experience in programming satellites of other countries and participate in the implementation of such a program.

"We shall definitely use this opportunity. Let me not speak about the neighbors, who all seek to be more represented in space," he said.

"And I am convinced that the specialists who are still left [in Armenia], who exist today, will help us so that our space initiatives be more specific, be more practical," Vahagn Khachaturyan added.
