Because of rising prices in the U.S. and Britain people began to buy less chocolate, Reuters reported, citing the world's largest chocolate manufacturers.

Chocolate sales in the U.S. were at a peak during the coronavirus pandemic when people stayed home and received payments from the government. Today, however, due to rising prices of other commodities, Americans are saving money on sweets.

For example, total retail sales of chocolate in the U.S. have declined by 2-3 percent over the past couple of months, Hershey Co. vice president Melissa Poole told Reuters in an interview. She also confirmed the high likelihood of a further decline in demand during 2022.

At the same time in the U.K., 40% of people have switched to cheaper products, including lower-priced chocolate with less cocoa.
