YEREVAN – A 22-year-old woman died in Armenia after eating a watermelon treated with pesticides on August 1.

Armavir police department received an emergency call that 22-year-old Elya Mamoyan ate a watermelon treated with pesticides and died on the way to hospital.

The woman’s father-in-law Amo Kh., 51 told law enforcement agents that she ate a watermelon treated with chemical pesticides the day before. The “delicacy” was designed for extermination of insects.

It turned out that Amo Kh. handled watermelons with pesticides several days before and left them on the balcony. However, the man did not warn the family members, the press service of Armenian Police informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

An investigation is underway.
