make preferableBAKU. - The Azerbaijani authorities are afraid of Russia. For this they have lots of reasons, Azerbaijani political scientist Hikmet Hajizade stated in an interview with Azadlig newspaper, naming some of them.
“The key to Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution is in Russia’s hands. Besides, over 2 millions Azerbaijanis live in Russia. Russia has hundreds of ways to destroy Azerbaijan,” he noted.
The expert referred to Medvedev-Aliyev meeting in Sochi, noting that Medvedev’s statement “We talked with Aliyev openly” is intended to terrorize Aliyev himself. “Such statements seem to issue a warning in case Azerbaijan resumes military hostilities. Russia can teach us Georgia’s lesson. This is a clear anti-Azerbaijani message,” he stressed.
Responding to a question why an anti-American hysteria instead of anti-Russian began in Baku, the political scientist said: “The U.S are very far from us and try to support the growth of our democratic beginnings. However, Abkhazia and South Ossetia served a good lesson for Russia’s neighbors. Russia still adheres to this foreign policy,” he noted.
As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Ilham Aliyev met in Sochi on August 9. The two leaders discussed expansion of bilateral relations, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as a number of international issues, in particular world economic problems.
