YEREVAN. – 168 Zham daily conducted an interview with Armenia’s former FM, Vartan Oskanian. Excerpts from this interview are as follows:

What possible rearrangements do you see in this pre-election period? 

As a result of the elections, I would have liked to see new layouts in the parliament. The ideal alternative for me would be for no party to have a majority, and thus they would form a true coalition. One of our problems is that there is too much imitation in all domains. The [ruling] coalition is an imitation. The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) has the majority, and it is meaningless to have a coalition partner. If in the next parliament RPA stays in power but is compelled to govern the country by way of real coalition, the situation in Armenia would change drastically. And that would open up before us new prospects for more effectively developing the next 10 years. We would be able to resolve the issues of economic monopoly, corruption, and injustice. Without a political leverage, I just do not see the possibility of solving other problems.       

Have you decided whether you would enter active politics, or participate in the upcoming elections with a [political] force?

If there comes a force which would adopt this approach, I would like to contribute in making that a reality. Carrying out political leverages is the most important task for me. I would have liked to see a union around this very objective, so we may create a new situation in the parliament.
