YEREVAN. - Armenia’s PM Tigran Sargsyan attended, on Tuesday in Masis city, the unloading from train cars of over 1,100 tons of high quality “Elita” wheat seeds, which were imported from Stavropol, Russia.

Representative of Armenia’s agriculture informed Sargsyan that, in comparison with previous year’s 183,000 tons, this time 220,000 tons of wheat was harvested from the 950 tons of wheat seeds imported last year. In addition, last year’s seeds were imported from Russia for a price equivalent to $1US/kg, whereas this year they were brought over for an equivalent of approximately 75 cents/kg.

The Armenian government had approved the agriculture ministry’s 2010-2014 Seed Program. It is now the second year that high quality “Elita” wheat seeds are imported to Armenia, and they will be distributed to villagers with 7 hectare- or larger plots of land.
