STEPANAKERT. – Nagorno-Karabakh Republic’s (NKR) Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement, whereby it calls upon the international community to be constructive and consistent toward all processes taking place in NKR.     

With this statement,  NKR MFA responds to Azerbaijan’s latest initiatives with respect to the holding of local self-government elections in NKR and Baku’s response, NKR MFA Press Service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.   

“The local self-government elections, held in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on September 18, 2011, are next successful manifestation of the democratic process. The bodies of authority, which are formed in accordance with evaluation by numerous international observers and by way of free elections, are called upon to continue the permanent process of raising the Karabakh people’s self-organization and future strengthening of the foundations of an open and democratic society in our republic.   

NKR citizens have made use of all peoples of the world’s inalienable right for free choice. In this context, we deem any criticism of the democratic processes in NKR to be unsubstantiated and incongruous with the modern trends for developing international relations. In addition, NKR MFA considers it appropriate to remind Azerbaijan that its attempts to deprive Nagorno-Karabakh people of the right to democratic development and to consolidate a civil society are doomed, and at the same time expresses a concern over the absence of similar processes in the neighboring republic.          

The Ministry also appeals to international community to be constructive and consistent toward all processes in NKR, which contribute to the formation of an open and democratic society in South Caucasus,” the statement specifically reads.
