YEREVAN. - Armenian Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan on Tuesday convened a special session in connection with a military unit vehicle accident that occurred on the same day in Armenia’s Armavir Region.   

As a result of the accident, 6 conscripts were taken to Armavir City Hospital, where 21-year-old conscript Hayk Davtyan lost his life, MOD Spokesperson Davit Karapetyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.                

In his words, the Minister is in Brussels at present. An investigation is being conducted in connection with the incident, and, upon the Minister’s return to Armenia, the investigation results will be reported to him and he will make pertinent decisions. 

Even though Karapetyan stated that the special session’s details are not made public, according to reliable information provided to Armenian News-NEWS.am, the commanders responsible for the incident attended the meeting Seyran Ohanyan had convened. According to our sources, the aforesaid military unit’s regiment commander and his deputies will be dismissed in the coming days, whereas several other officers, including generals, will receive severe reprimands.   

A criminal case is launched into this accident, and Senior Lieutenant Hamlet Virabyan is detained on suspicion of committing a crime. The criminal investigation continues.
