Zhoghovurd daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes: According to the last year's publications of the Statistical Committee, the distribution of asylum seekers in the Republic of Armenia by gender, age group, and country of citizenship in January-June 2023 is as follows: The citizens of Iraq seek asylum from Armenia the most; this year their number was 131 people. In second place are the citizens of Ukraine: 115 people in the past 6 months. In third place are the citizens of Iran: 40 people.

To our surprise, Russia is the 6th in this series; only 18 people from the RF [(Russian Federation)] citizens have applied for getting asylum [in Armenia] in the past 6 months. In a way, this is not surprising, as for the Russians, Armenia is now a conduit for receiving financial resources from abroad. Many of them become citizens [of Armenia], but either stay here or go to another country with an Armenian passport, as we Armenians can visit many countries without the need for an entry visa.

Citizens of Nigeria, Israel, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Morocco, Turkey, and [some] other countries seek asylum from Armenia.

Among the 117 safest countries in the world, Armenia is 25th; maybe this fact also forces people to ask for asylum [in Armenia] or become RA citizens.
