Germany has announced its intention to review the allocation of hundreds of millions of euros in aid to the Palestinians following a significant attack on Israel by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, as reported by Reuters.

Svenja Schulze, the German Development Minister, emphasized that the government has consistently ensured that its financial aid is utilized solely for peaceful purposes. However, in light of the recent attacks on Israel, she described this as a distressing turning point, stating that Germany will now review all its obligations regarding the Palestinian territories.

Notably, certain German lawmakers, particularly those from the opposition conservative party, have called for the cessation of aid. Armin Laschet, the conservative chancellor candidate in the last federal elections, called upon all 27 European Union member states to reevaluate their stance. He emphasized the need to discontinue financing any entities associated with terrorism and proposed ending EU cooperation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
