YEREVAN. – Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and First Lady Svetlana Medvedeva on Tuesday held a state banquet in honor of Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan and First Lady Rita Sargsyan, who are in Russia on a state visit.

President Sargsyan noted this visit became yet another important and significant manifestation of the sincere interest to further strengthen the friendly Armenian-Russian relations, Presidential Press Office informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Sargsyan also underscored that despite difficulties, relations between the people of Armenia and Russia have always been an example for brotherhood, sincere respect, and mutual assistance.    

Armenia’s President noted that the historical recollection of the two peoples possesses many glorious traditions of political, military, and humanitarian friendship. “We are obligated to not only preserve that invaluable legacy with care, but to also jointly seek new opportunities for further developing cooperation,” Sargsyan stated. 

Underscoring his belief in the prospect for, and the great potential of, cooperation between the two countries, Serzh Sargsyan expressed a hope that his visit would further consolidate the general disposition for more fruitful activities and open new boundaries for collaboration.  

During the state banquet, Serzh Sargsyan also decorated Dmitry Medvedev with the Republic of Armenia’s highest state award: the Medal of Glory. Thus, with Armenian President’s decree, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is decorated with the Medal of Glory for his great personal contribution to strengthening traditional friendly ties between the people of Armenia and Russia, deepening and expanding strategic allied relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation, and defending peace and international security.
