YEREVAN. - Active work of civil initiatives and organizations engaged in nature protection aimed at preservation of Trchkan waterfall and calling against exploitation of Hrazdan mine, gave an impetus for the Armenian society to struggle against damage to environment, says the statement issued by Armenian opposition.

In a statement the Armenian National Congress (ANC) mentions that actions of the initiatives are indicatives of improving self-organization and progress in the Armenian society.

“The Trchkan group [calling for preservation of waterfall] and environmentalists struggling against exploitation of Hrazdan mine, showed repressive actions carried out by the ruling regime for many years and are unable to stop wave of civil protest,” the statement says.

The ANC voiced support for initiatives aimed at protecting Armenia’s environment.
