YEREVAN. – Madeline Tashjian, the wife of Serop Der-Boghossian—the proprietor of Armenia’s Akhtala Mine Enrichment Plant, Metal Prince Company, and American-Armenian businessman—on Monday filed a petition with a capital Yerevan court, with the request that businesswoman Silva Hambardzumyan publish a corresponding text in the press and also pay Tashjian one Armenian luma (equivalent of US cent) for damages, Zhoghovurd daily writes.

“To the newspaper’s question as to why she appealed to the court and demanded a mere one luma, in contrast to attorneys or oligarchs, for example, who demand 6 or 18 million drams [US$ 15,535-$46,600] for defamation or insult, Mrs. Madeline responded: ‘I am not interested in the money.’

So, Akhtala Mine Enrichment Plant’s executive director Mrs. Tashjian’s petition could set a precedent in the institution of compensation for moral damages,” Zhoghovurd writes.
