YEREVAN. – Tigran Barseghyan, the Armenian National Security Service’s (NSS) Chief of the General Department for Constitutional Protection and Fight Against Terrorism, was recently relieved of his duty and sent to personnel reserve, Haykakan Zhamanak daily writes.

“According to some information, Barseghyan was dismissed because he was informed of the preparations for a palace coup, but he had not reported this to his superior.

In line with another alternative, Barseghyan is the ‘scapegoat’ in this story because he had informed NCC Chief Gorik Hakobyan [about this], but the latter did not report this to [President] Serzh Sargsyan. In a conversation with our correspondent, NSS Press Secretary Artsvin Baghramyan did not refute the news of Barseghyan’s dismissal,” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
