YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Syunik and Tavush Regions will soon have army generals as regional governors. The name of Lieutenant General Arshaluys Paytyan is being circulated for the post of Tavush Regional Governor, Zhoghovurd daily writes.

“And once the criminal case launched against Liska’s (Syunik Regional Governor Suren Khachatryan) exploits comes to a close, Armed Forces Major General Vardan Avetisyan will be appointed Syunik Regional Governor. He was born in [President] Serzh Sargsyan’s native Tegh village and has always been in ‘domestic political’ conflict with Suren Khachatryan. And although the Armed Forces are outside politics, General Avetisyan, together with Karabakh War veterans, openly assisted [ruling coalition’s] Republican [Party of Armenia] and Serzh Sargsyan, in [capital] Yerevan and several regions, during the previous parliamentary and presidential elections. Now the time for recompense has come,” Zhoghovurd writes.
